Reims is one of the best cities in the Champagne region for cellar tours and tastings.
With several world-famous Champagne houses calling it home, the city offers everything from historic underground crayère tours to casual tasting experiences right in the center of town.
Some Champagne houses offer full guided cellar tours followed by tastings, while others let visitors enjoy a glass without committing to the full tour.
On top of that, Reims has a handful of tasting-focused spots dedicated entirely to Champagne flights and grower Champagne discovery.
This guide covers all three types of Champagne experiences you can have in Reims.

Champagne Mumm

Champagne Mumm offers one of the easiest major Champagne cellar tours to reach on foot from Reims station.
- Access: Around 15 minutes on foot from Reims station
- Best For: Visitors looking for a walkable major Champagne house tour in Reims
- Experience Style: Classic large-house cellar tour for first-time visitors

One of the most unique aspects of the Lanson tour is the opportunity to visit Clos Lanson, a rare walled vineyard located within Reims itself, where vineyards are otherwise rarely seen.
Visitors can also reach the house by tram, getting off at Courlancy and walking about 6 minutes.

The beautiful staircase inside the mansion is especially photogenic.

The prestige cuvée “Comtes de Champagne” is also one of the most famous Blanc de Blancs Champagnes in the region. Visitors who enjoy Blanc de Blancs may want to choose an experience that includes a tasting of it.
The UNESCO-listed Basilique Saint-Remi is located just a short walk away.

Ruinart is one of Champagne’s most iconic Chardonnay houses, and visitors interested in Blanc de Blancs may want to book one of the Chardonnay-focused tour experiences.

This boutique is an excellent place to explore high-quality grower Champagne in one location. It is also located just behind Les Halles du Boulingrin, home to Reims’ popular Saturday morning market.
Cellar Tour or Tasting Only: Which Should You Choose?
If this is your first time visiting the Champagne region, a cellar tour is usually the better place to start. You’ll get to explore underground cellars, learn about Champagne production and house history, and enjoy tastings as part of the experience.
On the other hand, tasting-only spots are ideal for visitors with limited time or those looking for a more casual and flexible Champagne experience.
Many visitors also combine both — joining a cellar tour at one Champagne house while enjoying additional tastings elsewhere in the city.
Tips for Booking Champagne Experiences in Reims
Reservations Are Essential in Reims
Reservations are strongly recommended for almost all Champagne experiences in Reims. While last-minute availability is sometimes possible, tourism in the Champagne region continues to grow, and many experiences are often fully booked in advance. This is especially true for popular cellar tours during weekends and the summer season, where reservations may sell out several months ahead.
Getting Around Reims Without a Car
All of the places featured in this guide can be reached from Reims station on foot or by taxi. Keep in mind that taxi stands are only located directly outside the station, and ride-hailing apps such as Uber or Bolt are not always immediately available in Reims. Booking transportation in advance is often a good idea.
How Many Champagne Experiences Should You Book in One Day?
If you are unsure how to plan a day in Reims, a good balance is usually one cellar tour combined with one tasting-focused stop. You can always add another tasting later if you still feel like exploring more Champagne afterward.
Personally, I would not recommend scheduling more than two cellar tours in a single day — ideally one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
Champagne cellars are often large, and the visits can be surprisingly tiring both physically and mentally. Walking through underground cellars and following detailed explanations for several tours in a row can become more exhausting than many visitors expect.
