About the Author

My dog and me in Hautvillers, where Dom Pérignon once worked — one of my favourite villages in Champagne

Tokyo, then Champagne. That was over a decade ago.

My name is Hiromi. I have been living in the Champagne region for over ten years, working for a local Champagne producer.

My first connection to the region came in 2004, when I came to France to study wine marketing and spent time as a communications intern at a Champagne house. It was a brief stay, but the place stayed with me.

After returning to Japan, I spent nearly a decade in the wine industry — running an e-commerce wine platform in Tokyo, with Champagne as one of my specialities.

Then, in 2011, I became seriously ill. After two surgeries and a course of chemotherapy, I returned to work. But my doctor had been clear: this was not something that would fully go away. “See the people you want to see,” he told me. “Go to the places you want to go.”

I found myself drawn to somewhere quieter — somewhere with nature and a slower pace. Champagne came to mind. I had lived there before, I spoke the language, and something about it felt right. In 2013, I moved back.

More than ten years later, I am still here — healthy, and glad I came.

What I share on this site

Through my work, I meet visitors from around the world. Over the years, I have noticed the same questions coming up — practical things that are hard to find reliable answers to online.

This site is my attempt to fill those gaps, with information grounded in daily life in the region rather than a passing visit.

My perspective

I have worked for two Champagne producers — one a larger, well-known house, the other a smaller, independent operation. Seeing both sides has given me a more complete picture of how Champagne actually works, and that shapes what I write.

I hold a Licence Professionnelle du Marketing du Vin from the Université du Vin à Suze-la-Rousse. Before moving to France, I worked as a journalist for a drinks industry newspaper in Japan, covering wine.
